This pair of prints were inspired after seeing students on Youtube at a protest rally at Cendrawasih University. They were surrounded by the military might, yet they marched/ danced singing, "We Are The Morning Stars". People often say we have stars in our eyes with many connotations. The West Papuans have The Morning Star in their hearts and so l painted this Marind woman with stars in her eyes as the West Papuans don't give up hope which is very inspiring to me.
Cetakan ini terinspirasi setelah mengamati para mahasiswa di YouTube dalam sebuah aksi protes di Universitas Cendrawasih. Bisa jadi mereka dikelilingi oleh militer, tapi mereka tetap berbaris/menari sambil menyamyikan, “Kami Bintang Kejora”. Orang sering berkata bahwa kami memiliki bintang di mata kami dengan banyak konotasi. Penduduk Papua Barat memiliki Bintang Kejora di hati mereka sehingga saya melukisi perempuan laut dengan bintang di matanya seperti Penduduk Papua Barat yang tidak berputus harapan, yang sangat menginspirasi saya.
